My Style Collage
PART I
The goal of this project is to show the class and your teacher who you are.
1. Decide on one category that visually expresses you. For example: clothes, cars, video games, interior design. Within that one category, you can bring in more things about you.
2. Find five-seven different pictures that represent the category and you. Make sure to label your pictures 1-5,6,7
3. Write a paragraph (10-15 sentences minimum) that explains what details you like about each object and explains what/how those details represent you. (WHAT NOT SAY: I don’t know why. I just like it.) Make sure you mention and explain each picture.
PART II
The goal of part II of this project for you to analyze not only your visual self-expression, but your written self-expression. What does you writing say about you?
4. Analyzing the paragraph you wrote, write 1 paragraph describing your writing. Describe your sentences lengths: long, short, varied? Do you use the same sentence patterns or do the patterns change? What kind of words do you use: short, long, descriptive, specific, vague, slang? Are your thoughts organized? Is the organizational pattern easily discernible? Do you use transition words? What is the tone of your writing: casual, formal? What does this paragraph show about you as a writer?
Rubric:
The collage includes:
- neat, creative, and school appropriate
workmanship with 5-7 pictures: _______/5
- details explaining why you like about the objects: ______/5
- connections that explain how the objects represent you: _____/5

PART I EXAMPLE
PART II EXAMPLE
Blashack's Writing Style
Readers of my writing might categorize my style as detailed, organized, and complex. This makes sense because I value having all the pieces of the puzzle: for me, less is not more. More is more. Hence, my writing includes dependent clauses, prepositional phrases, and appositives to explain specifics. Most of the sentences begin in different ways, but almost all of them are compound or complex sentence. Few are simple or short, which can create a dense, formal tone. Each sentence orbit a specific idea to fully develop it: for instance, in this example the first paragraph discusses each picture individually while the second example lays out the idea of a common denominator that the rest of the paragraph explains. This writing sample demonstrates a desire for specifics, thoroughness, and organization.
